NORTH ROYALTON, OHIO — Author and double lung transplant survivor David Nordstrom has released The Gift of Breath: A Double Lung Transplant Survivor’s Story of Faith, Hope, and Second Chances, a deeply personal memoir chronicling his journey through life-threatening illness, transplantation, recovery, and a renewed appreciation for life.
Nordstrom was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a progressive and ultimately life-threatening lung disease. As his condition worsened, everyday activities became increasingly difficult and his future increasingly uncertain.
His journey eventually led him to the lung transplant program at University Hospitals, where he faced the demanding process of qualifying for transplantation, waiting for donor lungs, undergoing a life-saving double lung transplant, and beginning the long road to recovery.
The Gift of Breath takes readers inside that journey—the fear, uncertainty, setbacks, moments of hope, and extraordinary second chance that followed.
The book also features a foreword by Silpa Kilaru, MD, who served as Medical Director of the lung transplant program at University Hospitals and was part of Nordstrom’s journey.
